Tomoyasu Hotei celebrates his 40th anniversary of his shining career as one of the top guitarists in the world.
The film traces down the history of his career with many rare footages and unreleased videos. Along with his music, Hotei also frankly confesses how he deals with music after 2020; the so-called "With Covid-19" world. The selfies are taken from his home during London’s lock down and quarantine. Here, Hotei pours out his true feelings as he released the behind the scene footage from his no-audience live performance at Nippon Budokan (which took place on January 2021). He directly confesses the struggles he is facing both as a musician and a human being. Hotei’s indomitable spirit to overcome Covid-19, the way he takes action on "what he should do now as an artist," and his positive words will give us courage to live, and gives us a light to imagine the future.
In addition to various live performances since 1988, the film includes his historical turning points in his career, as well as rare interviews. The entire film is narrated by the artist himself as he looks back on a number of topics from both past and present perspectives.
The film is directed by Yusuke Ishida, the winner of the Best Editing Award at the 35th Japan Academy Prize for the film "MOTEKI" (2011), also directed many films and TV dramas. He also directed the documentary film "Naoto Inti Raymi: The Adventures of Naoto Inti Raymi Travel Song Diary" (2013), as well as music videos and general live performances that earn great reputation. He is the notable creator today, with the high affinity of movie and music.
This is a wonderful collaboration between Ishida and Hotei, where you can enjoy the life of a rock guitarist, and his work of historical value that summarizes 40 years of Japanese rock music from its dawn to the present.
